The mirrors you happily gaze upon and the ones you prefer to avoid [zine]
The Interstitial 03: MIRROR🪞
I’ve always loved looking at my reflection.
(Maybe this sounds vain, but as someone who exists in a body that society is constantly trying to brainwash me into hating, I think it’s pretty fuckin rad.)
Even when I was little, while my mom rushed us through the streets of New York, I can remember seeking out shop windows just to catch glimpses of myself.
I rarely avoid looking into actual mirrors, but I’ll admit that sometimes I do avoid the people mirrors.
You know, the friend who can see right through you. Or maybe it’s your mom who just knows you’re not being honest about something. Maybe it’s that one song that, when you play it, you can’t avoid those feelings any longer.
And when I start avoiding those mirrors, the reminder eventually hits that everything is a mirror, showing me different truths about myself.
None of them are the whole truth (whatever that means) but truths nonetheless.
In this month’s zine, I wanted to explore the mirror as a portal into truth. I wanted to get curious about the power a mirror has to both be alluring and something to avoid.
When do you love looking in a mirror? When do you hate it?
And thus, The Interstitial: The Mirror Issue is ready to be consumed by your eager eyes.
Inside, you’ll find original artwork, my usual musings, and of course, some whimsy.
