I’m certified obsessed with the new Netflix movie, KPop Demon Hunters. As are many others, evident by the thousands of Threads thirsting over Jinu (me too girl) and the fact that it’s been top 10 on Netflix since it came out.
So for the fellow HUNTR/X and Saja Boys stans, I thought it would be fun to do a little astrology breakdown of what I think the main characters’ big three are.
I’ve watched the movie at least five times by now, so I feel like I’ve got a good enough understanding of these characters. This is just for funsies so if you have different opinions or things to add, drop them in the comments! Obvi we have no idea what their actual charts look like, so let’s just play!
And I think this is obvious but THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS! If you haven’t watched the movie yet, save this post, watch it, and come back.
Rumi
Capricorn Sun, Sagittarius Moon, Virgo Rising
Capricorn Sun
I didn’t choose her Sun sign as Capricorn just because she’s the group leader of HUNTR/X (and a pretty good one at that).
Rumi is obsessed with “fixing” herself:
“How am I supposed to fix the world, fix me, when I don’t have my voice?”
“We can’t fix it if we never face it.” (love this song btw)
And Capricorns can tend to view life through the lens of a project, or something that’s being built. They are acutely aware of what’s not functioning as it should be, and are more than willing to work tirelessly to rectify it. They need an end-goal that drives them forward.
I think it’s interesting that Rumi’s mom was a hunter, because Capricorn is related to legacy, too. This sign teaches us about how our long-term efforts build legacies whether we’re intentional about it or not, and Rumi is doing just that. She’s been passed this torch from her mother, and with it, she has a very ambitious goal: turn the Honmoon gold. This would not only “fix” her skin issue, but would also be part of her legacy in this lineage she belongs to.
And speaking of skin, in medical astrology, Capricorn literally rules the skin and she has demon patterns on her skin. In the song Golden she sings, “shining like I’m born to be”—I interpret this as shining (Sun-related) with her patterns (Capricorn-related) because that’s exactly how she was born.
I also want to note that Rumi is handed a very large responsibility, even as a child. Knowing she will one day be a hunter and has to carry this very big secret (that she’s half demon) is a lot of baggage for a little one to hold. Capricorn is a sign of responsibility, and a lot of the time as children, Capricorn placements can be sort of “adultified” and given the expectations of an adult when in reality they’re just kids.
Sagittarius Moon
When Jinu shares his story about how he turned into a demon, at first, Rumi writes it off. But it slowly picks at her, and she becomes hyper-fixated on knowing the truth about the demons beyond just what she’s always known and believed.
Truth and belief are super important to Sagittarius placements. And we can see this with Rumi.
After hearing Jinu’s story, Rumi tries to double down on her beliefs about demons being bad and deserving to die, as if to comfort herself (Moon = emotional safety). But her unanswered questions around her own mixed identity lead her to seeking more knowledge, and redefining her own beliefs, even if that means going against what Celine taught her.
The thing about Sagittarius placements is that there is a bravery to them. They’re not afraid to say the quiet part out loud or to tell the truth no one wants to hear. And I think once Rumi is able to change her beliefs about what her patterns mean to her, that’s when we see her embrace who she is. She shifts the inner belief system that once allowed for shame to breed, and instead chose her own truth.
Side note but def related: Sagittarius is associated with foreign-ness, and so the fact that she’s half demon, and is attracted to Jinu who is also a demon, just makes a lot of sense to me. Maybe the demon realm isn’t “foreign” in the sense of like, another country, but I think it can still apply here.
Virgo Rising
Rumi has a very put-together exterior. Like, she does not let herself slip up. She keeps her patterns hidden really well, she’s the perfect leader, the perfect idol for her fans.
So when her patterns reach her throat and start impacting her voice, it’s a huge fuckin deal. Not just because of the reality of what that means, but it starts to shatter this illusion that, as long as she does everything right, she’ll be OK.
Virgo is a sign that is, yes, associated with perfection. But it’s also associated with service. This drives Virgo perhaps more than a sense of perfectionism. And Rumi is so dedicated to their cause as hunters, and to her fans, it’s almost devotional.
Virgo can also tend to create rules and expectations in their head that they’ve taken on from overt and/or covert cues from their external world. So again, Rumi thinks that if she can just sing perfectly, release the perfect song, that the Honmoon will turn gold and all will be right. And to her credit, when her patterns threaten to foil her perfect plan, she’s very adaptable, which is also a signature of Virgo (and mutable signs in general, like her Sagittarius moon.)
When the Saja Boys debut, she and her team pivot to doing a diss track against them. And then when that doesn’t feel right, she pivots again. Virgo is always taking in information from around them, digesting it, and adjusting their path accordingly.
Also, being a Virgo rising would mean her Sagittarius Moon is in her 4th house. This can indicate a multi-cultural heritage (human + demon). And with her Moon in that house, she’s emotionally guarded—remember what the “doctor” says about her having walls up?
This would put her Capricorn Sun in her 5th house, which points to her approach to creativity being sort of business oriented. She’s also super comfortable performing on stage and being the center of attention, which are 5th house themes.
Mira
Aries Sun, Scorpio Moon, Sagittarius Rising
Aries Sun
Mira is so textbook Aries in that she was the “problem child” growing up, aggression is low key her love language, and she’s kinda cynical. Also the lyric “fit check for my napalm era” is so Aries-coded imo!
But another side to Aries that doesn’t get talked about a lot is this question of “am I enough?” which happens, I think, because the messaging Aries often receive from their environments is that they’re too much. And we see this with Mira when she discovers the truth about Rumi’s patterns. She doesn’t get to have a family, like her worst fears were actually true: that she’s not good enough to have what she desperately wants.
Scorpio Moon
Mira reads super guarded to me, also a little dark and mysterious, which is how I experience Scorpio placements. She’s private about her personal feelings except for with the people she considers family, and she seems generally distrusting.
The fact that she writes Rumi off immediately when she sees her patterns reads very Scorpio to me. Instead of being curious or having a conversation, she immediately feels betrayed and lied to, and actually points her demon killing weapon at Rumi. Scorpios are huge on trust, so the second they feel betrayed, they’re gone.
Scorpio is a fixed sign, and there is this solidness to Mira that I think she gets from that Scorpio Moon. She’s not easily swayed. And when she is, it’s because something incredibly strong and passionate reaches through her walls, like Rumi’s song at the end.
Sagittarius Rising
OK don’t hate me but sometimes Sag risings look like horses and she def does! But in a hot way!
But also, she’s not afraid to speak her truth. A lot of the times Aquarius gets associated with the rebel archetype, but I think Sagittarius has that quality to them, too. Don’t ever try to put a Sag in a box, because they know they’re so much more and will absolutely reject it. They just want to be free to do whatever they want.
Her being a Sag rising would also put her sun in the 5th house, just like Rumi. Performer vibes. Despite how private she is, she’s still comfortable being in the spotlight when she feels like she controls the narrative.
And this would mean her moon is in the 12th house, which, yeah. That tracks. Moon in the 12th is a hard placement to have. Emotions can feel incredibly confusing or inaccessible sometimes. It can also point to having inherited some family baggage/trauma, which she prob did considering the little bits they told us about her family life. These placements also really value alone time, and something about Mira’s vibe tells me she loves being alone when she’s not with her members.
Zoey
Libra Sun, Gemini Moon, Aries Rising
Libra Sun
Zoey is super cute, a total people pleaser, and all about trying to keep the harmony within the group. Oh and her inability to ignore the hotness of the Saja Boys? Libra af!
Her character feels really essential to the HUNTRI/X dynamic because she brings the levity, the playfulness, the balance. Rumi can tend to be pretty serious (Capricorn vibes) and Mira is quite intense (Aries + Scorpio) so Zoey breaks the tension and brings out the light-hearted sides in her group mates.
Libra is a cardinal sign, which is initiating energy. Zoey is usually the one that gets the group moving because of her plans, like when she takes them to the doctor—which turns into their meet cute with the Saja Boys.
Gemini Moon
Zoey is the group’s rapper and lyricist, has a million notebooks FULL of lyrics, and has 700 2-second videos of turtles saved in her phone. Very Gemini energy.
Gemini is a word smith not just on paper but out loud, which would speak to Zoey’s ability to rap and write songs. And a Gemini Moon’s mind is constantly moving, hence all of her notebooks and the fact that she had 57 ideas to fix Rumi’s voice.
Gemini is symbolized by the twins, and I think her lyric in Golden sort of speaks to that dual energy:
“I lived two lives, tried to play both sides, but I couldn’t find my own place.”
Both Libra and Gemini are sort of like the mirrors of the zodiac. They reflect others’ energy so well and so often that sometimes it can be hard for them to ground into who they are on their own, without the expectation or influence of others around them.
Aries Rising
Despite being cute and bubbly, Zoey is a force! She’s energetic, she has that initiatory energy like I mentioned above (Aries is also a cardinal sign) and she gets shit done. She’s always moving, always ideating, and this feels very Aries to me. She’s also the maknae (youngest) of the group, and Aries is the baby of the zodiac, so I feel like there’s a synchronicity there.
Her fans also mention that when she raps, “she goes hard. She get’s real scary, so scary like you better watch out!” which to me points to the fact that she’s got some Aries fire in her. An Aries fire is quick to come and quick to go. Quick to get scary, and quick to be cute and bubbly again.
With an Aries rising, Zoey’s Sun is in her 7th house of relationships, which makes a lot of sense because she reads very relationship-oriented. Not only is she extremely attached to her members, but also to her fans. Her relationships seem to motivate her in healthy and maybe unhealthy ways (like her people pleasing.)
This would put her Moon in her 3rd house, and… yeah. The 3rd house is about communication and community, writing and sharing ideas, being curious. I feel like this is really how Zoey’s lyrics are able to shine and resonate so well with her fans, because of this third house influence. She’s able to express her true feelings via her lyrics.
Jinu
Leo Sun, Capricorn moon, Cancer rising
Leo Sun
*sigh* Jinu.
Jinu is such a complex character, and we love a hot, morally gray male lead.
Our first intro to Jinu is literally him singing this song about Gwi-Ma’s demise straight to Gwi-Ma’s face (flame?)—and if that isn’t some Leo audacity, idk what is.
Also, he knows he’s hot shit. The way he performs Your Idol, loving every second of being center stage and totally adored by the fans? Big Leo energy.
The fact that Jinu is a natural performer is definitely a Leo trait. He’s comfortable being in the spotlight, and maybe even craves it—hence his plan, to create a demon boy band starring who? HIM.
Leo’s can also sometimes be a little selfish, especially when seeking validation or approval. The fact that he sold out his family so that he could live a better life and gain the attention of the elite speaks to this, I think.
Capricorn Moon
Jinu, like Rumi, is fixated on “fixing” his current situation. He can’t just sit around and do nothing in the demon realm. He comes up with a “new strategy” (Capricorns are very strategic) to defeat the hunters that also leads to his own personal gain (hi Leo Sun.)
Like I mentioned in Rumi’s section, Capricorn placements tend to get adult-sized responsibilities thrust upon them at an early age, and Jinu is no different. He busks to try to make some money to support his family, which is a heavy weight for a child or even teen to carry.
I think it’s also very Capricorn Moon of him to want to erase his memory (also very Cancerian and we’ll get to that) because in his mind, if he erases his memory, then he’ll be fixed. Capricorn’s are natural solution-seekers and know how to weave a plan and execute it.
The sign of Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, which can sometimes feel a little burdened. It can be depressive and oppressive, and we can see this in the way Jinu expresses his suffering from his human life and how he carries his deep shame.
Cancer Rising
Jinu is emotionally layered yet also emotionally aware, he has some major walls up guarding his felt sense of vulnerability, and sometimes he acts like a martyr. Very Cancerian.
“That’s all demons do: feel. Feel our shame, our misery.”
He also wants to erase his memory, and Cancer is associated with memory. Cancer holds our family’s past, too, so this feels like a fitting theme here with his arc. Cancer placements are also very survival-oriented, and can sometimes make not-so-great choices for the sake of their survival, like swap his family for a better lifestyle, because they feel like they have no other choice. The same could be said for when he decides to betray Rumi’s plan at the end.
As a Cancer rising, his Leo Sun would be in his 2nd house of money and values. A 2nd house Sun probably wouldn’t like being poor, especially in the sign of Leo—there’s a pride issue there. At the very least, a 2nd house Sun would be oriented around themes of materialism and self-value, and so there’s this predicament here of, what are you willing to sacrifice for material gain? Which we literally see in his arc. The 2nd house holds our values, too, and the fact that he betrayed his family probably isn’t in alignment with his values, which likely adds to his sense of guilt and shame.
This puts his Moon in his 7th house. He’s probably starved for relationship in the demon realm tbh so I think that makes his connection with Rumi that much more potent. 7th house Moons are also very mirror-y, so the fact that he notices her patterns immediately, and starts trying to cross that bridge to her would make sense for this placement.
I hope you enjoyed this! Let me know your thoughts in the comment section! Also who is your bias in HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys?! Bc I’m def a Rumi + Jinu girl!
i love character astrologyyyyyyy & this movie omfg i sobbbbbed 😭😭😭 i’m a virgo sun with a cap stellium & rumi is just 🥹🥹🥹
This is such a fun analysis! I’m a Virgo Sun and Libra Rising and def relate to Rumi and Zoey the most 😆
