Welcome to Cancer season, dear sensitive souls.

With the Sun entering this cardinal water sign, the spotlight shifts from the busy playground of Gemini to the comforting home of Cancer.

Cancer asks us to explore how we’ve hardened and softened in pursuit of security and survival; to examine what real nurturance looks like, and to decide whether or not we’re actually receiving that from others and ourselves. Where/how are you in survival mode? Is it safe enough to lay down your defenses?

The medicine of Cancer is in its ability to be both soft and hard. Cancer teaches us that being deeply sensitive is the most important thing about being human—and that when we distance ourselves from that softness, we distance ourselves from our humanity, too. Cancer knows its softness is its strength, and wields its hardness as valiant protector of the most vulnerable.

This season, welcome your moodiness as a sign that you are allowing yourself to be deeply human. Cry as often as you can. Flock and gather inside your sanctuaries. Protect that which is sacred to you.

Astrologically, this season is busy! We see the beginning of three planets stationing retrograde, which heralds a time of friction, slowness, and thus some necessary introspection.

If things feel overwhelming or you start to crash out, take your cue from Cancer: nurture yourself, spend time at home, feel your feelings.

Aries: King of Swords

Cancer season is your time to be forthright. I know that sneaking out the back door or taking the easy way out is so alluring sometimes. But it feels like this season is really asking you to be honest, with yourself and others, and to do the hard thing. Have the conversation. Say the truth that even you don’t want to hear. Be decisive, and stand ten toes down on the choices you make. Don’t choose stability over truth.

Taurus: Six of Wands

Cancer season is your time to celebrate what you’re building. Whether you’re growing a garden, expanding your business, or just trying to live a happy life, you deserve recognition. Even if you feel like it’s not “enough,” be present with your progress and your process. Think about your life even two years ago, and how much has changed, how much you’ve changed. You don’t have to wait on a big milestone to celebrate your life. In fact, why not turn your life into one big celebration of you?

Gemini: Three of Cups

Cancer season is your time to frolic with your friends and lovers. Maybe you have a friend going through a tough time—you can be the person who brings them levity and comfort. Maybe you’re the one going through the hard time—lean on your friends to remind you of your worthiness and inherent value.
