Astrology and Intuition: The Moon
This is Part 1 of a mini-series on how to use your astrology to better understand your intuition. First up: getting intimate with your Moon sign.
You’ve been there before.
You’re on the precipice of making a major life decision. You’ve asked everyone whose opinion matters to weigh in on what the right choice is. And while some of them gave you a clear answer, some of them told you to go with your gut.
But the problem is, you don’t know what your gut is saying.
You keep trying to do what you think you’re supposed to do to get connected with your inner voice—like meditating or deep breathing by yourself—but you can’t seem to connect, and end up getting frustrated and worried that your intuition has seemingly abandoned you.
I’ve been there too, many times. But I have some good news: Just because you have a hard time connecting, doesn’t mean you’re broken or that you don’t have an intuition.
I firmly believe each one of us has our own unique brand of intuition, with its own preferences, language, and timing. But we live in a culture that actively gaslights us and discourages us from staying connected to this part of ourselves (because creating a populace that trusts the state more than themselves is how you control people! But I digress…)
I’ve had so many clients ask me about how to get more connected with their intuition, so I’m writing this mini-series in response and hoping that it reaches the people who need it most.
I think looking at your astrology chart can be a great place to start when you have no idea how to begin understanding this mysterious part of you. And if you’re already acquainted with your inner voice, then consider this bonus material!
But before we dive in, I want to make something clear:
Intuition is a slippery fish. I’m not here to define it or figure it out. That’s impossible and irrelevant! And beside the point. Consider this mini-series like a waymaking journey into discovering and uncovering new facets about your intuition and how to access and create a relationship with this part of you. I’m here to offer you ideas and ways to work with what you’ve got.
Now that I’ve defined what I’m not going to define, let’s dive into these elusive waters—starting with your Moon sign.
The Moon

The Moon in astrology represents your emotions and your inner world. It’s how you feel, how you process your emotional reality, what makes you feel safe, and how you seek comfort (for better and for worse.)
The Moon is also like a river that flows out of the mystical body of water that is your intuition. The Moon doesn’t care about logic—in fact, logic is no good on the Moon. Instead, the Moon communicates through emotion and intuition.
In the tarot, many classic definitions of The Moon card include confusion or sitting with uncertainty and unclarity. I think there are layers of sexism to this (The Moon is classically associated with femininity) but that’s a rant for another time!
From my perspective, the Moon isn’t necessarily about confusion, but rather about leaving logic and realistic-ness at the door. It’s about attuning to the more subtle ways information shows up for you—like via physical sensations, dreams, noticing signs or patterns—and letting yourself see through a different lens: Your intuition.
Because again, your intuition is anything but linear. It doesn’t “make sense” in the way we’ve been conditioned to make sense of things in our physical reality. It doesn’t play by the rules of the material world.
With the Moon always sitting in a zodiac sign, it gets imbued with the qualities of that sign. Knowing what sign your Moon is in can help you start to understand—and at the very least contextualize—how your intuition might work, and how you may get disconnected from it.

Aries Moon
With the Moon in Aries, your intuition may feel loudest when you’re in motion, amidst chaos, or being decisive. It’s important for an Aries Moon to channel your energy—physically, creatively, whatever—because stagnancy or pent up energy can block your intuition’s ability to flow.
This native might consider taking an “act first, think later” approach, because your intuition is right there with you when you’re choosing to be bold over being cautious. If you let something stew in indecision too long, you run the risk of waffling between what your intuition is trying to tell you versus what your anxiety is screaming at you.
Another important part of accessing and strengthening your intuition as an Aries Moon is developing and understanding your anger and rage. Unlike what many of us have been conditioned to believe, anger and rage are extremely important emotions that require our attention and reverence. It’s very likely that your intuition actually speaks to you via your anger, so it’s important for you to create space in your life for these emotions and the information they carry.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re being indecisive, cautious, bottling up your anger, being passive; you’re waiting too long to make a choice; you’re not trusting in your own leadership and authority
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Taking risks, exerting physical energy, listening to your anger
Taurus Moon
With the Moon in Taurus, your physical body and bodily experience is often the gateway to accessing your intuition. This means, first and foremost, that you need to be prioritizing taking care of your body, and treating your body as the vessel through which your intuition arrives (which is true for all of us, but especially pertinent for this placement!)
Basic body care might look like bathing/showering regularly, engaging in intentional movement that you enjoy (yoga, weight-lifting, dancing), getting plenty of rest, and staying adequately fed and hydrated.
Developing a healthy relationship with your body is also key. If you’re spending time hating how you look or always in your head, your intuition may not feel like it’s safe to come through—or that anyone is there to listen even if it did. It’s really important to put in the work to create a sense of safety within your body, which I know can be fraught due to systemic racial and gender oppression, as well as capitalism. But you are likely to feel your intuition via physical sensations (like getting goosebumps or tingling in your leg) before it comes through another way, so creating a sense of safety in the body—and being present in the body—is key.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re disconnected to your body, in your head too much, or physically can’t relax enough for your intuition to come through
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Connecting to your body in a way that feels really safe and comforting; stimulate your physical senses: eat something delicious, smell your favorite perfume, wrap yourself in your favorite robe
Gemini Moon
With the Moon in Gemini, you may often feel like your brain is buzzing with activity. When things start to feel too loud in there and you’ve lost your intuition to the internal chatter, start writing. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a journal or on your notes app. Writing allows you to bring some of those thoughts out of your brain, and chances are you will enter into a sort of flow state—which is your intuition coming through, btw—that pulls out the more relevant information.
And it’s highly likely you’ll end up writing something you didn’t even know was inside of you. Hello, intuitive message!
With this placement, it’s good for you to take a “light on your feet” approach to life, where you’re able to hop from one activity to the next with ease and curiosity. Generally speaking, it’s good for you to have multiple projects, social groups, books on your Kindle, etc. Don’t try to limit yourself! Just know when it’s time to focus, and make sure you have your priorities straight. Keeping a steady flow of learning, enriching socialization, and processing your thoughts and ideas is a good way to keep your intuitive channel active and relatively clear.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re too bogged down, you’re not processing any of the information you’re intaking, you’re not allowing yourself to pursue what you’re curious about, you haven’t had an enriching social interaction in awhile
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Writing a major brain dump, going down a rabbit hole on your latest interest, having a good conversation with a friend
Cancer Moon
With the Moon in Cancer, your intuition feels like home. However, you may have a harder time deciphering the difference between your intuition and your emotions.
This is an intricate dance because your emotions and intuition may feel like they flow through the same channel, so shutting down one can shut down the other. It’s important that you discern the difference between what your emotions feel like to you and what your intuition feels like.
In order to open up your intuitive channel, your most important work will likely be creating an inner sense of emotional safety for yourself. Many of us were raised in environments in which it wasn’t actually safe for us to display and express our full emotional range. Creating this inner safety takes time and lots of reparenting your inner child, but can help your intuition feel safe to come through.
This placement can also benefit from connecting to ancestral traditions, and since we’re talking about intuition, ancestral traditions that are spiritual in nature might help you feel more connected to your internal wisdom.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re not letting yourself feel your full spectrum of emotions, you’re fixating on the past, you’re judging yourself for your “negative” emotions, you’re in an environment that doesn’t feel emotionally safe, feeling cut off from a sense of family (biological family doesn’t matter—found family works here too)
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Creating an internal environment of emotional safety, connecting to your ancestry and ancestral spiritual traditions, feeling connected to family or found family, creating a comforting environment at home
Leo Moon
With the Moon in Leo, your intuition is likely to speak to you via your creativity. It’s important for this placement to develop a strong relationship with creativity, because you’re wired for imagination and creation. I think actually most people access their intuition when they’re in that creative flow state, but this is especially true for Leo Moons.
If you don’t have a creative practice already, it’s not as intense as it sounds. You don’t have to be a painter or a poet. We’re all creative beings! You can identify and channel your creative energy into something seemingly mundane, like cooking, having sex, or cleaning your house. Once you start to notice that spark, it grows like fire.
With this placement, it’s also important that you’re living a life that prioritizes your joy. Joy might feel like a big word, so if you’re not sure what brings you joy or how to invite more joy into your life, start by noticing the small moments that make you smile really big or give you little butterflies. These are the breadcrumbs you should follow, and often, your joy might one of the languages through which your intuition speaks to you.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re doing too much out of obligation and not out of joy, you don’t have a creative outlet, you’ve lost touch with your sense of play, you’re not allowing yourself to be seen or celebrated, you’re taking yourself too seriously
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Doing something that allows your creativity to come alive, doing things that bring you genuine shit-eating-grin joy, playing with the children in your life
Virgo Moon
With the Moon in Virgo, you likely have a very busy internal world. There is always a to-do list, always a task that needs to be done, always something that can be tweaked and improved upon. But your intuition doesn’t care about any of that, and actually isn’t going to bother breaking through that noise to get your attention. So it’s your job to quiet your mind so your intuition feels welcome.
Spending intentional alone time with yourself might help you get that internal quietude. This placement is so service-oriented, so when there are other people around, it can be easy to focus on them and their needs and not on you. Doing calming activities by yourself can help turn down the noise and create the space for your intuition to come through.
I also think it’s important to note that there is no right or wrong way of creating a relationship with your intuition. In fact, putting pressure on yourself to do this process “correctly” or “perfectly” is a surefire way to make your intuition run for the hills. So release yourself from that pressure, and DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT overthink it.
And finally, because Virgo is an earth sign, it’s important for you to take care of your body and listen to the ways in which your intuition may speak to you through your physical body.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re not getting enough intentional alone time, you’re not slowing down, you’re too focused on how your intuition “should” be coming through and not paying attention to how it’s actually showing up, you’re overthinking or too in your head
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Being alone in quietude, doing a body scan, focusing on a meditative task like cleaning or cooking, taking nervous system-soothing herbs like lemon balm or damiana (check with your doc first!!)
Libra Moon
With the Moon in Libra, healthy relationships are extremely important to you. And in order to have a strong foundation for a healthy relationship, you need to trust yourself.
This placement has a natural internal compass that points toward justice and truth—the symbol for Libra is the scales, after all—but what can be harder for this placement is actually trusting that internal wisdom. Because of your relational nature and inclination toward harmony, it can be easy to allow others’ opinions or validation to sway you or pull you away from your own inner knowing. Build this relationship of self-trust by staying present with yourself and staying true to your values.
As a Libra Moon, you may also feel disconnected from your intuition when you’re uninspired, or your life feels out of balance. I’m a big believer that balance isn’t a destination we arrive at, but a dance we constantly do with ourselves. Prioritize a balance that feels good and right for you. And if you’ve stopped seeing the beauty in everything around you, that’s your sign to start romanticizing life again. Start small, like using a beautiful mug to drink your coffee, wearing beautiful clothing, or adding a scenic route on your way to the store. When you feel those hits of inspiration from enjoying beautiful things, it’s like a beacon call for your intuition.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re too focused on other people’s opinions or advice, you’re not trusting yourself, you’re self-isolating or avoiding others, you’re uninspired, you’re not spending enough time in nature or around beauty, you feel out of balance, you’re too focused on external harmony and not internal harmony
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Visiting somewhere beautiful like a museum or a field, having some quality one-on-one time with a loved one, revisiting media (artwork, movie, song, book, Pinterest board) that makes you feel inspired, getting some fresh air
Scorpio Moon
With the Moon in Scorpio, your intuition is a natural powerhouse. This placement is emotionally intense, and to deny or minimize that in any way is sending the message to your intuition that you can’t handle it.
You feel things very deeply, get extremely attached to people, and can be vengeful or punishing when hurt or betrayed. For a Scorpio Moon, the first step to creating a relationship with your intuition is to embrace and acknowledge your intensity. Playing it cool, acting like you don’t care, or shrinking because someone can’t handle you will do you no favors. (I’ll also add that using your intensity as an excuse to be abusive or manipulative is absolutely not okay.)
I think it’s important for this placement to find your personal middle ground—because in that space is likely when your intuition will be clearest. Scorpio Moons can very easily get swept into extremes and black and white thinking: I love him! I fucking hate him!
Understanding that this is your nature, and developing the self-awareness to bring yourself back from the ledge on either side is really important. Your pendulum swings carry valuable information for you, but do not always offer you the truth. It’s your job to know yourself and use discernment when dealing with the more intense parts of you. It can be good for you to channel your intensity into something that feels deeply satisfying or enriching.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You keep trying to shrink yourself and pretend like you’re not intense, you’ve lost touch with what you’re passionate about, you don’t know when enough is enough, you let your impulses run unchecked
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Having good sex (solo or partnered,) having an internal accountability system with yourself, channeling your intensity into something you’re passionate about
Sagittarius Moon
With the Moon in Sagittarius, you are a natural seeker and wanderer. But sometimes, you can be too busy looking to the horizon that you miss what’s right in front of you (like your intuition warning you of those red flags… jk! unless..?)
This placement can really benefit from having a spiritual or philosophical practice/framework that anchors you into your truth and keeps you humble. This has to be unique to you and it also needs to make you feel a sense of freedom and empowerment—the last thing you need is to feel caged in by dogmatic beliefs. But having something that keeps you curious and moving forward is really good to keep your intuitive channels open.
Sagittarius Moons also need to pursue having experiences. I know that sounds vague but your intuition can be experiential, and if you’re doing the same ole things in the same ole ways you’ve always done them, your intuition doesn’t have anything to respond to. Pushing your comfort zone and investing in experiences is a great way to keep your relationship with your intuition alive. That can mean foreign travel, but it doesn’t have to! It can be exploring a new neighborhood in your city, taking a class doing something you’ve never done before, signing up to be a volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about. The possibilities are endless. You can infuse this ethos into your life in a way that works for your specific lifestyle and interests.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re disconnected from a belief system that anchors you in your values and truth, you’ve stopped reading and/or writing, you’ve stopped seeking knowledge, you’re not putting yourself out there and seeking new experiences
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Doing something new, having a conversation about philosophy or religion, identifying the ways you don’t feel free (that are in your control) and prioritizing your sense of freedom, being present with what’s here now instead of looking to what’s next or what could be
Capricorn Moon
With the Moon in Capricorn, your intuition is the epitome of “I feel it in my bones” (Capricorn rules the bones!) but sometimes you may get in your own way by focusing too much on what’s “realistic” or right/wrong.
Your relationship with your intuition may feel like a slow burn. It will take time and dedication to develop—but that’s what you’re made for. You’re here for the marathon, not the sprint. Finding consistent ways to develop this relationship is key. Maybe that looks like starting a mediation practice, hiring a mentor to teach you and keep you accountable, or committing to a journaling practice to get to know your inner world better. Your intuition wants you to consistently show up.
It’s also important for this placement to take good care of the body. Obviously this applies to everyone, but especially you. Make those doctor and dentist appointments, take your vitamins, get regular exercise, do your chores. The menial stuff like that is very Saturnian (which rules Capricorn) and can help this placement stay connected and present with your inner world.
And my last words for Capricorn Moons: Trust that you are the only qualified leader and authority of your own life.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re being too rigid or controlling, you’re being too shallow or materialistic, you keep getting stuck in “there’s only one right way” kind of thinking, not taking responsibility for your life and choices, not taking care of your body
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Showing up in consistent ways to develop your intuition, loosening your idea of what your intuitive journey “should” look like, reclaiming your authority within your life by making the hard but necessary choices, taking care of your body and generally doing things in the present that future you will thank you for
Aquarius Moon
With the Moon in Aquarius, your intuition may feel like it comes in strikes of lightning or quick bursts of creative genius. But in order for it come through, you have to make room in your life for it.
It’s important for this placement to prioritize authenticity, and what I mean by that is showing up as your genuine self. Not wearing a mask to match whatever social setting you’re in, not letting the current trends dictate your personal taste in fashion or interior design, and not biting your tongue to keep the peace. The more embodied you can be in your authenticity, the easier it’ll be for you to recognize your intuition as opposed to your anxiety.
It’s also important for Aquarius Moons to feel like you’re a part of something bigger than yourself. Whether that’s an activist group or an artist collective, being a part of and contributing to community is a must for this placement’s intuitive wellbeing. You may feel inspired by your peers or have conversations that spark something within you. Either way, it’s good for you to be around people that energize you; conversely, recognizing when you need alone time to process and recharge is just as important.
Your inner nature, like your intuition, can be unpredictable, so keeping a regular pulse on your current needs, and then getting them met, is a must for keeping your intuitive channel clear.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
You’re isolating, you’re not prioritizing authenticity, you’re letting others’ judgments or opinions of you dictate your self-expression, you’re not making room in your life for spontaneity, you’re over-intellectualizing your emotions
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Being active in your community, having intellectually stimulating conversations, embracing what makes you cringey, having a schedule that allows for spontaneity and doing things on a whim
Pisces Moon
With the Moon in Pisces, your intuition may feel vast and borderless. But getting lost in the spiritual sauce is not how you create a good, discerning relationship with intuition.
Probably the most important thing about this placement is the need for boundaries. Setting and enforcing strong boundaries around how you spend your time and energy, and how you socialize with people are non-negotiable for Pisces Moons. Limiting your interactions with people who drain or siphon your energy is a must!
You have boundless empathy for others, and we love this about you—but that doesn’t mean you should. You’re so sensitive to other people’s feelings and emotions that it’s important for you to discern what you’re taking on from someone else, and what’s yours (alone time is necessary in order to do this!)
Your intuitive channel gets clogged by other people’s shit so fast when you don’t hold fast and firm to those boundaries—and by other people I mean IRL interactions with friends, randos walking around you on the street, and yes even social media. Your intuition is so accessible to you when you clear the energetic muck clogging it up.
Why your intuition feels stuck:
Lack of boundaries with yourself and others, escapism and avoidance as coping mechanisms, being out of touch with reality or wearing rose-colored glasses
Clear the path for your intuition by:
Being in nature, consuming art (any medium), being around animals, spending some intentional time alone, practicing excellent energetic hygiene, being grounded in your body
